Summary:

The IT Business Strategy Principal Analyst is highly motivated leader who will creatively blend their analytical skills, IT financial skillset, information technology industry experience, and business acumen in order to successfully partner with leadership to set and execute IT’s strategic vision.

This position will create and own the IT spend management function which will require data analysis, strategic thinking, and the ability to communicate about it in a way that is understandable to all stakeholders based on their involvement. This will involve leading handling complicated IT investment reviews of activities vs. spend to IT leadership for their decisions of the investment opportunities.

The position will also create a roadmap for the functions that will show how this function will mature in strategic financial support, investment decision framework, develop and provide clear transparency, and adding new capabilities related to IT investments. The roadmap must show how IT will communicate analyzed data and ensure IT is closely managing the department’s cost growth aligned with overall value provided. This position interacts and partners closely with Seattle Genetics Finance Department on typical rhythm of the business activities, reporting, and all activities related to IT investment decisions.

This role is a key leadership position within IT due to its impact on Seattle Genetics present objectives and goals in the upcoming years.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Strategically define the IT spend structure based on IT budget best practice and ensure it is in alignment with IT’s overall governance, strategy, and vendor management practices.
  • Manage IT’s spend governance processes and work with IT leaders on long-term planning for IT capabilities and services.
  • Lead and drive the development of investment decisions for IT, including the impact on spend and value.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership, Finance partners, and IT stakeholders to define the necessary requested budget and develop recommendations for senior management.
  • Partner with Finance to provide meaningful and insightful variance explanations to Quarterly and Monthly forecasts based on IT’s spend by working directly with IT management. Includes with a sound foundation in performance drivers, analysis and solutions proposals.
  • Collaborate across technology service providers to collect relevant data, build processes, and develop models to implement Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and consumption-based allocations to drive transparency and decision making. Utilize this TCO for analysis of savings, annual planning efforts, and IT’s strategic leadership decisions.
  • Develops and drives a technology lifecycle management discipline to maximize IT’s investment in technology.
  • Perform scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, and comparative benchmarking analysis for various capital IT-sponsored projects above $500K in size. Partner with Finance to prepare ROI reports and cost benefit case studies. Present financial plans to senior management.
  • Initiate and lead key long-term investments decisions related to on-premise, co-location, SaaS, PaaS and IaaS deployments.
  • Maintain and enhance Technology Business Management (TBM) applications and dashboards to communicate budget status and define/calculate KPIs.
  • Develops, implements and identifies opportunities to improve IT’s internal spend-related policies, procedures and processes.
  • Define annual goals for the function that align with IT’s overall annual goals.
  • Keep an accurate inventory of IT headcount, in partnership with IT’s Demand Management Organization, and analyst spend impacts with various scenarios for ongoing headcount decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • 15 or more years work experience in working in or closely with information technology. Ideally, experience is with technology/business management and IT analysis, or related with demonstrated progression of responsibility.
  • MBA with a solid understanding of IT investment strategies, IT functions, and a solid understanding of financial analytical techniques.
  • Proven history of fostering teamwork and collaboration across multiple functional areas with competing priorities.
  • Management experience building a team and coaching/managing and supporting the team.
  • Experience implementing Technology Business Management (TBM) applications and dashboards that communicate IT’s cost information, including resource capacity.
  • Effectively handle ambiguity in all aspects of work, including business direction and strategy.
  • Experience in process management and leading teams (direct, indirect, and consultants).
  • Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrable ability to successfully interact with internal and external business partners at senior levels in a global environment.
  • A high level of initiative and critical thinking to formulate business issues into analytical problems and devise actionable solutions.
  • Must have strong MS-Office skills (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Manages large amount of raw data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of technology service management preferred.
